Well as usual the first month of the year has whizzed past in a blaze of regret and resolution. OK well perhaps not regret but it was alliterative so it sounded good. Either way we are well into February so with some well intentioned blogging plans for the New Year now underway I thought I would reflect on my months reading. 

So what did I read in January and was it any good? Alas reviewing my list it looks like I haven't quite been able to break out of my comfort zone just yet....but I will, I will. So it looks like fiction topped the list once again....

So it’s the New Year, a time of reflecting on the year past and a time for looking forward to the year to come, and what with all that neck spinning, possibly a time for whiplash as well. So while you emerge from the post New Year haze, recover from the whiplash and launch into the pursuit of some well thought out and entirely achievable resolutions for 2010, here are a few of my musings on some books I have read recently and ones I intend to read in the few weeks. Beyond that who knows....this year’s favourite book probably hasn’t been released yet! .......

Some of the recent moderate reviews for the movie adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger’s great read The Time Traveler's Wife got me thinking about the impact on a book's reputation of a poorly or for that matter well made movie.

So many books have been made into movies we have evolved into a time when ‘seeing the movie’ is a de rigueur part of the process of appreciating contemporary stories – and in fact ‘reading the book’ can come a poor second if at all.
